THE man who picked up Gigi Hadid as she left the Max Mara show in Milan yesterday has been revealed as notorious celebrity “prankster” Vitalii Sediuk, after he issued a statement to The Hollywood Reporter yesterday explaining his reasons for targeting Hadid.
“While I consider Gigi Hadid beautiful, she and her friend Kendall Jenner have nothing to do with high fashion. By doing this, I encourage the fashion industry to put true talents on the runway and Vogue covers instead of well-connected cute girls from Instagram,” he said. “You can call it a manifest or a protest. This is also a wake-up call for Anna Wintour, who turned Vogue into a tabloid by putting Kardashians and other similar celebrities on a cover of a well-respected magazine.”
Sediuk has previous form for pulling rough public stunts. In 2014 he ambushed America Ferrera on the Cannes red carpet and attempted to crawl under her skirt, while the following week he was detained by police in LA for allegedly punching Brad Pitt as he attended the premiere of Maleficent with Angelina Jolie (he has reportedly not been allowed to reside in the USA since the event). Prior to this he has attempted to kiss Will Smith, grope Bradley Cooper and grab Leonardo DiCaprio at red-carpet events, and was charged by police for his attempts to interrupt Adele’s speech at the 2013 Grammys.
Following yesterday’s high-profile stunt – which saw Hadid attempt to defend herself by elbowing Sediuk in the face – Sediuk left the scene immediately, despite Hadid’s attempts to stop him. In the last 24 hours, the model has taken to Twitter to address the situation.
“I am human and had every right to defend myself. How dare that idiot think he has the right to man-handle a complete stranger. He ran quick tho,” she said, adding a fist emoji.
Afterwards, responding to her friend, the actor Ansel Elgort, when he asked where her boyfriend Zayn Malik was, Hadid responded: “@AnselElgort that guy should prob take some time away from icing his jaw tonight to count his lucky stars that Z wasn’t there…”, while last night she issued a message of advice to her many fans.
“Girls, prepare yourselves so that, if you ever feel in danger, muscle memory can fight back for you. Thank you all so much for ur support,” she tweeted, adding, “Thanked my boxing coach today.”
