We chose a green and white palette so everything would feel fresh and elegant. I did start to doubt the choice at one point as so many people kept asking why we weren’t using colour! But I was so pleased with how the decor turned out.
Our big day was a family affair. Both our mums made our cake, while a close family friend decorated it. My dad also made our place mats and menu stands out of wood from the garden, while we created all the apple place cards.
My mum and I arranged most of the marquee flowers – a mix of English seasonal blooms and orchids as a nod to my Chinese heritage. For the marquee, our florist created two large sculptural hanging pieces with branches, orchids and moss – they looked sensational.
When some friends, the very talented Hannah and Alice from Belle & Bunty, offered to design my dress I obviously said yes! We created three separates – a short-sleeved lace jacket, a silk maxi skirt with a train and a silk camisole. It meant everything was beautifully fitted but I also felt so comfortable during the day.
My top tip: Don’t underestimate what a big task it is to do all your decor yourself. It was enjoyable, but fairly stressful too!
